Welcome to Ms. Newbey's art education experience! I am excited to learn about each of your children. This class will help them express themselves and to better understand and appreciate art and the world they live in. A fun year is planned, filled with many choice-based projects in which students can learn and utilize the elements of art and principles of design. They will be required to use technology for research as well as creation. We will explore different artmaking techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, digital media and more. My ultimate goal is to serve as a supportive resource for you and your child as we work together and remain flexible as this unique school year progresses.
Google Classroom, as well as each student's Google Site (Art Process Journals) will be used each week. This will allow a virtual and personal creative space for various exercises, brainstorming, responses. Questions and answers will be recorded with the ability for either confidentiality between the student and the teacher or collaborative functions among peers.
Your child will be encouraged to express their ideas and emotions in original and creative ways. In class we will analyze and respond to societal, cultural and historical relevance and connections. Students will be asked to respond critically in class discussions and through personal investigations. Any information you or your family can add to your child‘s quest for creative expression is encouraged.
Students:
I will respect myself, my teacher, my peers, and school property.
I will be cooperative when asked to follow the rules and procedures.
I will arrive at class in a timely fashion, prepared and ready to complete the task of the day.
I will wait my turn respectfully to share my thoughts, feelings, and questions.
I will be respectful when my classmates open up and share theirs.
I will be tolerant of different cultures, races and beliefs that may be different from my own.
I will handle all materials and my environment, whether physical or virtual, in a safe manner.
I will be responsible for cleaning up my space and the materials used. Please remember, communication and participation are the keys to a successful school year!
I find it important to recognize effort and achievement and will do so by praising exceptional creative behaviors, over and beyond effort, as well as exceptional and original student work. Feedback is an important component for student achievement. This will take place inside and outside of the art class in the form of conversations, critiques, written or video responses, etc. Feel free to contact me at your convenience, especially if any concerns arise. I look forward to working with you and your family.Email: jnewbey@greenburghcsd.org
