A Message From Transportation i.e. National Bus Driver Shortage

Attention All Greenburgh Central School District Families Receiving Public and Private Transportation

Dear GCSD Families and Community,

As you may be hearing in the news, there is a national shortage of school bus drivers across the United States which includes Westchester County.

Royal Coach, our bus company, is not immune to these circumstances and has shared that they are currently short-staffed by 5 bus drivers and approximately 8 bus monitors. Because of this shortage, there may be instances when your child(ren) will be picked up and/or dropped off later than expected. For the most part, we’ve been able to run the routes on time, and should a situation arise we will deal with it on a case-by-case basis.

Our children are our highest priority and their transportation needs are not taken lightly, which is why we are working closely with Royal Coach to solve the shortage as quickly as possible. For the last 8 months, Royal Coach has actively looked for new and veteran bus drivers that have/or have obtained a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger and a School Bus Endorsement. These candidates must pass additional and rigorous tests before they can be cleared to transport our children. All of this takes time so we ask for your patience.

We will continue to work closely with Royal Coach, local school districts, and families to keep you up to date with the latest information and do everything possible to make sure your children are transported to and from school in a safe and timely manner.

Thank you,

Greenburgh Central School District
