Happy Lunar New Year! Year of the Dragon!

🐉 Happy Lunar New Year from the Greenburgh Central School District! May the Year of the Dragon bring wisdom, courage, and success to all students, teachers, and families. 🎉

In the 2017/18 school year, the Greenburgh Central School District introduced the Mandarin program within the World Languages Department, emphasizing the interplay between language and culture. This initiative aligns with Governor Kathy Hochul's 2023 legislation, officially designating Lunar New Year as a school holiday in New York state starting in 2024.

By celebrating the Lunar New Year, educational institutions throughout the state not only honor the traditions of Asian communities but also promote a sense of unity and global awareness. Engaging in festive activities and learning about the customs associated with the Lunar New Year cultivates a rich tapestry of cultural experiences, encouraging students to appreciate and respect the diversity that enriches our educational environments.

The curriculum's focus on language proficiency and cultural understanding aligns with the existing International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme within the school district, ensuring students are well-prepared to navigate linguistic differences and thrive in our interconnected world.
