Important Matter Regarding ECP Mansion and Admin Building

August 29, 2019

Dear Greenburgh Central School District Community,

As we prepare for the opening of school, we would like to bring an important matter to your attention.  At the request of the Greenburgh Central School District and the District’s Facilities Committee, CSArch and DiSalvo Structural Engineers conducted an assessment of the interior and exterior condition of the Administration Building, also known as the Mansion, on August 27, 2019. The assessment revealed several areas of serious concern with the structural integrity of the building that will likely cause ceiling collapses throughout the Mansion. Our architect from CSArch confirmed the Mansion is unsafe for students and staff.  For your convenience, please see the attached report from CSArch.

There are currently three (3) Early Childhood Program classes at the Mansion. In our effort to be fiscally responsible and avoid renting space, we have identified three classroom spaces at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School to accommodate our Early Childhood Program students until the structural concerns are fully addressed and the Mansion itself is determined safe for all occupants. We thank Ms. Patricia Simone, Principal at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School, for graciously locating space for our youngest learners—with minimum interruption to the Lee F. Jackson Elementary School instructional structure.  While at Lee F. Jackson Elementary School, our Early Childhood Program students will experience the full complement of the full-day program with the previously assigned teacher.

Administrative staff assigned to the Mansion will be relocated throughout the district.  You will receive notification of our new office locations in subsequent communication. Central Office phone numbers and email addresses will remain the same. Please refer to our website for specific office phone numbers.

I am confident that you share our commitment to the health and safety of all students, staff, and faculty.  We will continue to update you on the progress of our work as we remedy the structural issues at the Mansion.  Thank you for your continued support of the Greenburgh Central School District.

Dr. Tahira A. DuPree Chase

Superintendent of Schools
