Woodlands Middle High School Mandarin Club Presents the Lunar New Year

The cultural celebration was a dazzling display of colorful costumes, delightful dances, and majestic music dating back hundreds of years to the Han Dynasty. “The 2025 Lunar New Year holds deep significance as we welcome the Year of the Snake, the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac. In Chinese and Taiwanese cultures, the snake is a revered and enigmatic creature, symbolizing grace, intelligence, mystery, and wisdom,” said Mandarin Club Advisor Dr. Yang. “Lunar New Year is a time for family, gratitude, and cultural traditions. Today, we come together as a Falcon family to celebrate, share blessings, and embrace the promise of a bright year ahead.”

Middle and High School Mandarin Club students were the featured performers in today’s special assembly. The Dance of the Dragon, The Story of the Lion, Handkerchief, Umbrella, Fan, Tambourine, Long Ribbon, Water-Sleeve, Taichi, and Gongfu dancers graced the auditorium stage for two performances. Special performances included Woodlands teachers and a solo by Dr. Yang.

Jake Morton, President of the Mandarin Club, was the program host and student leader. “Today’s performances were amazing,” he said. “I am so proud of all the club members. We worked so hard for many months to put this all together.”

Tomorrow, the Mandarin Club will be taking the show on the road with visits to Lee F. Jackson, Highview, and Richard J. Bailey elementary schools.
