We Are Stronger Together: A GCSD SELebration of Community

This year, the GCSD SEL Night was reimagined into a true SELebration—a vibrant, district-wide event that brought our entire school community together. With all hands on deck, Woodlands was transformed into a joyful, interactive playground with something for everyone.

The third annual SEL event featured a wide range of engaging activities: volleyball and soccer matches in the gyms, arts and crafts, games, karaoke, sensory exploration, and seedling starter pot making inside classrooms. The building buzzed with excitement as more than 250 attendees participated in the fun and explored what brings them joy and connection. “The energy, engagement, and enthusiasm throughout the event were truly inspiring. From meaningful discussions to interactive activities, the atmosphere was filled with positivity and connection,” said Michael McCoy, Co-Chair of the GCSD SEL Committee. “It was heartwarming to see participants embracing the essence of social-emotional learning and celebrating its impact on our school community.

The family program, revamped by the GCSD SEL Committee, aimed to highlight the importance of social-emotional learning both in and out of the classroom. “The success of the evening belongs to everyone,” said fellow Co-Chair Nicholas Giarusso. “Across the district, we have an incredible team dedicated to the whole student. SEL plays an important part both inside and outside the classroom. The support and participation of the Greenburgh school community make this work even more powerful, and those who benefit the most are our students.”
