Greenburgh CSD Launches the 2025–26 School Year with Inspiring Convocation

The Greenburgh Central School District kicked off the 2025–26 school year with a spirited Convocation, bringing together the Board of Education, administrators, faculty, staff, and union leaders to celebrate shared purpose and community energy.

The morning began with remarks from Board of Education President Tracy Mairs, who introduced the trustees in attendance and praised administrators, faculty, and staff for their dedication. She noted that the district enters the school year with energy, intention, and focus, setting a positive tone for the day. Union leaders also welcomed their members and colleagues, helping to ignite excitement and unity throughout the gathering.

Dr. Iwuoha Njoku, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, Programs & Personnel, and Shonda Merrill, the district’s new Assistant Superintendent for Business, introduced Superintendent Dr. Lorenda Chisolm. They energized the crowd with a spirited contest to see which building could cheer the loudest. Once the audience was warmed up, they shouted “Greenburgh,” and the crowd responded with “Pride!”—a joyful rallying call that set the tone for the morning.

Dr. Chisolm shared a unifying vision for the year, centered on the district’s new tagline: “Soaring Together for a Greater Greenburgh” and the four pillars of S.O.A.R. She reflected on the words above Woodlands Middle/High School—“Committed to Greatness”—describing them as a promise to students, colleagues, and the community.

Guest speaker Adam Welcome captivated the audience with personal stories and examples that illustrated the power of relationships. He encouraged staff to be champions for their students, recognize potential, and create learning environments where every student feels supported and empowered.

Staff participated in social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, including collaborative art projects and a lively volleyball game, fostering connection, teamwork, and joy.

Convocation 2025 showcased the district’s unity, enthusiasm, and shared vision. With collective purpose, strong relationships, and renewed energy, Greenburgh Central is ready to soar together in 2025–26.
