Woodlands Students Explore Future Pathways at G.O.O.D. for Girls Career Expo

Woodlands Middle High School students enjoyed a day of learning and explored future possibilities this weekend at the annual G.O.O.D. for Girls, Inc. Career Fair and Expo for Girls at Westchester Community College, an event designed to inspire, connect, and empower young women across the region.

For the second consecutive year, Mr. Greaves, Dr. Foy II, and Ms. Lwanga guided and supported a group of Greenburgh CSD students throughout the experience, reflecting a continued commitment from staff to create opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. The day began with engaging sessions led by professionals across a range of fields, from healthcare and law to leadership, wellness, and career development, offering students a broad view of pathways they may one day pursue.

In the afternoon, the Career Fair brought those possibilities to life. Students connected directly with entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals while participating in hands-on activities such as CPR practice, learning basic suturing techniques, and even creating skincare products.

A GCSD spotlight during the event was the interactive table hosted by Dr. Njoku and Ms. Cabbell, “Bedazzle Your Brilliance: Careers in Education.” There, students explored the many roles within education—from classroom teacher to district leader—before taking a moment to reflect, looking into mirrors and sharing positive affirmations that celebrated their own potential.

“Experiences like this show students that education offers many different pathways, not just one,” said Dr. Njoku, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “When they can see those possibilities, it helps them begin to picture their own future.”

Board of Education Trustee Erin Jacobson also played an active role, leading morning sessions and hosting a creative afternoon experience centered on art therapy. Students collaborated on a community quilt, a powerful visual representation of connection, creativity, and teamwork.

More than exposure to careers, the day reinforced a message that resonated throughout: students’ goals are within reach. Through the dedication of the educators who supported them and the experiences they engaged in, Woodlands students continue to build confidence, expand their horizons, and see themselves in the opportunities ahead.
