From heroes and villains to sidekicks and power-ups, the RJB Drama Club transported audiences into the colorful, pixelated world of Press Start!, an original children’s musical by Beat by Beat Press that brought beloved video game-inspired characters to life through music, humor, and heart.
The Drama Club presented the production last Wednesday under the direction of club advisor Ms. Buckhout, with stage design and retro gaming-inspired artwork created by Ms. Dove and RJB art students transforming the auditorium into an immersive video game world.
The cast shared their thoughts on the experience of bringing Press Start! to life on the RJB stage, as well as the message behind the musical.
“I liked being able to express myself, and it’s just been a really fun journey,” said Kacy. “The show is about how anyone can be a hero.”
“It’s awesome to be on stage,” added Naomi. “Doing this performance reminds me of all the work I’ve put in to make it happen.”
During Friday’s encore SEL Day performance, students, teachers, and staff were captivated by the production, with many commenting that the show felt like watching a professional production.
