It was standing room only at Lee F. Jackson's Kindergarten Spring Assembly, where families packed the room to celebrate a milestone both big and bittersweet: the end of kindergarten.
Under the direction of music teacher Ms. Lutz, students sang with heart, enthusiasm, and more than a few proud smiles as they shared a joyful collection of songs that reflected just how much they've grown during their first year of elementary school.
"The students really gave it their all," said Ms. Lutz. "It's wonderful to see how far they've come this school year."
The performance opened with "One Year Older," a heartfelt tribute to the family members, teachers, and caregivers who helped guide students through a year filled with firsts. In "First Grade, First Grade," performed to the tune of "Start Spreading the News," students enthusiastically looked ahead to the adventures waiting for them next fall.
Along the way, the audience was treated to moments that captured the energy and imagination of kindergarten. During "Blowing in the Wind," colorful scarves drifted through the air like falling leaves. "Sandy Sandy Sand" transported everyone to the beach, celebrating the carefree spirit of summer just around the corner.
Students also put their musical skills on display. Egg shakers accompanied "Shaking My Egg" as children explored high and low sounds, while rhythm sticks clicked together in perfect time during "Hot Hot Hot," earning smiles and appreciative nods from the crowd.
The assembly concluded with "School Is Coming to an End," a fitting finale that celebrated both the excitement of summer vacation and the closing of a memorable chapter. As the final notes echoed through the room, families responded with enthusiastic applause for the young performers who had grown so much over the course of the year.
Before the audience departed, Ms. Lutz offered one final note of gratitude, thanking families for their support and for being, as she put it, "the best audience always."
For Lee F. Jackson's kindergarteners, it was more than a spring concert. It was a celebration of friendships formed, confidence gained, and a year of learning that has prepared them for the next big step: first grade.
