LFJ First Graders Celebrate Recognition Day and Get Ready to Soar

With joy, pride, and togetherness, Lee F. Jackson first graders made one thing clear at their Recognition Day celebration: they are ready to leave the LFJ nest and soar to Highview Elementary School as second graders.

The festivities began in song with a spirited performance led by music teacher Ms. Lutz for LFJ families, teachers, and staff. Principal Simone welcomed families, noting that “this time of year is always bittersweet.” LFJ PTA members also presented Ms. Simone with a bouquet of flowers, expressing their appreciation and gratitude for the continued partnership between the school and the community.

The celebration continued inside the classrooms, where students received diplomas from their teachers and families gathered for treats and photos with teachers and staff. For security staff member Mr. Carney, the day was filled with both pride and emotion. Joining Ms. Cristiano’s classroom celebration, he made sure to take a moment to celebrate the students he sees each day.

“I am with these students every day,” he said. “I wasn’t going to miss them on this day.”

As he posed for pictures with students, one student ran over to join the moment with Mr. Carney, saying, “I want to take a picture with Mr. C!”

From time shared with parents and hugs with siblings to laughter, smiles, and silliness with friends, the celebration captured the milestones of a memorable first-grade year. As students prepare to leave the LFJ nest for Highview, they do so carrying not only cherished memories and friendships, but also the habits of mind and character fostered through the school's International Baccalaureate program. The curiosity, compassion, reflection, and sense of responsibility they have developed while there will continue to serve them well as they embark on their next adventure.
