Rebeca Sampelayo
Current Term of Office: July 1, 2024–June 30, 2027
About: I am a parent of a current 8th grade student at Woodlands High School, and of a recent WMHS graduate. I am also a parent to an adult daughter who graduated from a nearby public high school. I myself graduated from WMHS after immigrating to the USA in 9th grade. I have been living for 15 years in Hartsdale with my husband Ernesto and my children, and work full-time as a school-based bilingual speech-language pathologist. I have been a member of the PTAs at all Greenburgh CSD schools attended by my children, as well as carried executive titles and acted as connection/liaison for Spanish-speaking parents. I believe that I am an ally for educators, parents and the Latinx and LGBTQ communities.
I believe that the education of our students can be a transformative partnership between parents and educators. I have seen the greatest growth of my students when our work is rooted by mutual respect, and when students feel heard and valued. Learning, reflection, and taking diverse perspectives allows all parties to take ownership and accountability and can help create good learners who are willing to take risks for their own betterment and who think independently.
